When a change lever is operated in an H range from a D range in a switching system, a holding time T in the H range is counted (S6 and 12). When the holding time T reaches a determining time TO without returning the change lever to the D range from the H range (Yes in S16), a transmission is switched to manual shifting, and while, when the change lever is returned to the D range before the holding time T reaches the determining time TO (Yes in S14), a traveling mode of a vehicle is switched (S24).
