In a coater which coat paper after printing with varnish, an embossing plate 45 instead of a plate for coating is attached on a coater cylinder 41 to emboss the paper passing between the coater cylinder 41 and the impression cylinder 40. In the printing unit, the embossing plate is attached on the rubber cylinder in place of a blanket to emboss the paper passing between the rubber cylinder and the impression cylinder.
