To provide a chaperonin variant by which the hydrolysis activity of ATP is reduced and the holding time of a chaperonin complex is elongated, and to provide a DNA encoding the chaperonin variant.
The chaperonin variant contains a GroEL subunit variant comprising a specific amino acid sequence, or a GroEL subunit variant comprising an amino acid sequence obtained by substituting, deleting or adding one or more amino acids at the positions except alanine at the 52nd and the 398th positions in the specific amino acid sequence, and having molecular chaperon activity. The DNA comprising a specified base sequence, or the DNA encoding a protein hybridizing with the DNA containing the specific base sequence in a stringent condition, and encoding a protein having the molecular chaperon activity is also provided.
