PURPOSE: To obtain a character composing method arranging a series of a predetermined number of characters to space having a predetermined arbitrary shape or the indicated number of lines without leaving odd character residue.

CONSTITUTION: From the data of an inputted character string 61 and space data, the total length L of the character string 61 and the total length of a line to be arranged are calculated and, at first, the character string 61 is divided to be distributed to respective lines so that the first character comes to the head position of the first line and the final character of the character string becomes the just final position of the final line and the division of the character string 61 is performed so that the difference a1-a7 between the lengths l of the respective divided character strings and the lengths l1 of the respective lines become min. Next, the character closing quantity or character size of the divided character strings is corrected so that the final characters of the divided character strings just come to the last of a plurality of lines.
