PURPOSE: To perform editing, while confirming the result of allocation of a character on a display screen, at the time of setting a character display area (frame range).

CONSTITUTION: When an end point position P2 is moved by operating a mouse, it is decided that there is the movement of the end point position P2, and whether an input character-string is held in a frame range R or not is decided. In the case the input character-string is held in the frame range R, the head position and a character pitch at the time of placing equally the input character- string in the frame range R are calculated and stored, based on the frame range R, the number of characters, and a character size. Subsequently, based on the calculated head position and character pitch, the input character-string is placed in the storage area of the frame range in a display memory, and based on this arrangement, the input character-string is displayed. However, in the case the input character-string is not held in the frame range R, the input character-string is not displayed.
