PURPOSE: To provide a character display unit of an entering gate device where a problem is sloved concerning a character display unit adopting LED, which is provided for the entering gate device of outdoor facilities such as a skiing ground lift stop and a display content can always be held in a visible state even if peripheral brightness largely changes by day/night and weather condition.

CONSTITUTION: The system where LED 9 is adopted for the character display unit 5 provided for the entering gate device applied to the outdoor facilities and information is displayed with characters and numbers which are displayed with LED 9 as a light source is provided with a photosensor 12 detecting a peripheral lightness and darkness and a light control part 11a adjusting the increase/decrease of driving current in LED 9 to an appropriate value based on the detection signal of the photosensor 12 as light controlling means which automatically adjust the luminous intensity (luminous strength) of LED 9 in accordance with peripheral lightness. The display content of the display unit 5 is held in the state where it can always easily be viewed when viewed from the user of the gate device regardless of the day/night and weather condition.
