PURPOSE: To prevent deviated dots which are easily generated when generating a dot pattern of reduced characters by detecting the presence or absence of the deviated dots which generate a blank of the prescribed dot number or less from dot pattern data and putting a dot in the blank when the dot pattern is smaller than the standard value.

CONSTITUTION: A dot pattern correcting means 5 detects the presence or absence of the deviated dots which generate the blank of the prescribed dot number or less from the dot pattern data outputted from a dot pattern generating means 4 when the dot pattern of the reduced characters is generated. Then, when the dot pattern of less than the standard value is generated, the device judges that the deviated dot is generated and the dot is given to the blank existing between a main body so as to be integrated. Thus, the deviated dots can be prevented when generating the dot pattern of the reduced characters.
