PURPOSE: To reduce the data volume of font information and to rapidly develop various faces by extracting pattern information stored in a storage part based upon input font data and generating and outputting dot font pattern based upon the extracted information.

CONSTITUTION: The storage part 4 stores the pattern information of a reference pattern constituting a dot font pattern and an input means 1 inputs font data. An extracting means 3 extracts pattern information stored in the storage part 4 based upon the inputted font data, a generating means generates the dot font pattern based upon the extracted pattern information and an output means 6 outputs the generated font pattern. Consequently the data capacity for generating the dot pattern can be reduced and characters different in size or faces can rapidly be generated.
