To provide a character-illuminated license plate with excellent visibility and design.

A license plate has, on its open/close frame attached on the overall face of a case 1, a license plate board fixed thereto which is colored in a specified base color and is punched at its character part to be pasted with a transparent synthetic resin board, and an illuminating lamp inside the case for illuminating the character part. A case flange 11 is provided to the periphery of the open end of the case, and a seal member 8 of an elastic body through which light can transmit is provided on the case flange. An open/close frame flange 21 is fitted to the open/close frame covering the case flange so as to cover the end of the license plate, and on the underside of the open/close frame flange a synthetic resin board 9 for causing light incident to a surface 91 to be emitted from a section 92 is provided so as to locate the section 92 in the end side of the open/close frame flange.
