PURPOSE: To prevent the erroneous input, to improve the input speed and to reduce the fatigue for the input, by providing a shift mode display device which displays the shift state of an input key distinctively in the cursor position of a display part.
CONSTITUTION: Character string data inputted by the operation of a Kana (japanese syllabary) group 1A on a keyboard 1 is inputted to a cursor character code converting circuit 15 through a CPU2. Inputs from mode changeover switches 1BW1E are sent to the circuit 15 through a latch circuit 13. The circuit 15 discriminates contents of signals and sends a conversion code to a character pattern generator 16. Four kinds of cursor pattern, namely, Hiragana (cursive Japanese syllabary) characters, Katakana (square-form Japnanese syllabary) characters, uppercase alphabetic characters and the em-symbol, and lowercase alphabetic characters and the half em-symbol are stored in the generator 16; and when the generator 16 receives the conversion code from the circuit 15, prescribed character pattern and cursor pattern signal are outputted to a buffer 17 and are displayed on a display part 18.
