Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a contracted character pattern of superior picture quality, by dispersing a fine number of adjacent columns corresponding to magnification at positions which are nearly symmetrical in the column direction to the center of a character pattern, and ORing dots of adjacent columns in the same row. CONSTITUTION:A character generator 100 outputs rows of the character pattern expressed in a dot matrix of 20 rows by 12 columns successively. Every four bits of an output dot string of each row are latched by latch circuits 101-103. The outputs of the latch circuits, i.e. four pairs of bits 1 and 2, 4 and 5, 8 and 9, and 11 and 12 are ORed by OR circuits 104-107 and other eight bits, i.e. bits 3, 6, 7, and 11 and the outputs of the circuits 104 and 107 are set in a register 108. The contents of the register 108 correspond to a one-line dot string of a contracted character pattern. Similarly, respective columns of the character patterns are inputted to a similar device of perform row-directional contraction. This contracted character pattern has symmetry and continuance of dots and has less distortion of the character shape.
