PURPOSE: To provide the character pattern display controller which reduces a burden on a CPU, and can execute a display processing of a character pattern without causing deterioration of efficiency of a system by controlling the controller so that transfer control information of every character can be transferred together with font data of an outline system without allowing them to pass through the CPU and a system bus.

CONSTITUTION: A font generating circuit 5 expands font data of every character by an outline system and transfers it to a display control circuit 6. Simultaneously, the font generating circuit 5 outputs transfer control information required for transfer control of the font data and discriminating information for discriminating the kind of transfer data containing the font data and the transfer control information. An exclusive data bus 9 connects the font generating circuit 5 and the display control circuit 6, and transfer the font data, the transfer control information and the discriminating information.
