The character string input device is provided with a means 150 for retrieving a written character string coincident with the attribute of the written character string from a previously existing written character string data base 140 at the time of inputting the attribute of the written character string, a means 160 for generating one or plural reading character strings corresponding to the retrieved written character string, a means 120 for reading out the generated reading character string together with the written character string and registering them in a writing converting word dictionary 110, a means 100 for retrieving an objective written character string from the dictionary 110 by inputting the reading character string corresponding to the written character string to be inputted, and a means 130 for deleting information registered in the dictionary 110 by inputting an attribute specification release for the written character string to be inputted.
