Abstract:
To provide a system and method for characterizing the reliability of a height above the terrain in order to accurately locate a mobile device.SOLUTION: In a mobile device or service, the uncertainty of a height above a reference altitude is determined, an estimated 2D position of the mobile device is determined, and the uncertainty of a height of the terrain above the reference altitude is determined using the estimated 2D position. In the mobile device or server, using the uncertainty of the height above the reference altitude and the uncertainty of the height of the terrain above the reference altitude, the uncertainty of the height of the terrain of the mobile device is determined.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
