PURPOSE: To improve the reliability and eliminate the troublesomeness of operation by inputting the signal from a voltage detection circuit into a single-chip microcomputer so that the signal for start or end of charging is outputted to a current control circuit.
CONSTITUTION: When a nickel secondary battery 3 requires charging and a d.c. source 1 for charging is in the state that it can supply electric power, the battery 3 is charged with the current controlled by a current control circuit 2. At the same time, a single-chip microcomputer 13' resetting is released for operation. The single-chip microcomputer firstly performs initial processes for a timer 13A and IO part 13B contained in the single-chip microcomputer, and starts up a mask timer tm1 and total timer tm2, then, the port 13B sends ON instruction to a circuit 2, so that the charging of battery 3 is started. After the lapse of a certain period after starting of charging, the timer tm1 is stopped by a CPU 13F based on interruption request from the timer tm1.
