To provide a simply constituted charger which enables significant reduction of power consumed in electronic equipment when out of use, to provide a charging system, a charge control method, and electronic equipment.
When a portable device 100 is placed in a placement portion 151 of a charger 150, a switch 108 is pressed by the enclosure of the portable device 100 and switched from off state to on state. As a result, a commercial current is supplied to the primary winding of a transforming portion 105. The voltage of the commercial alternating current is transformed by the transforming portion 105, and converted into a charging voltage by an AC-DC converting portion 106. The charging voltage is applied to the portable device 100 through voltage output terminals 107 and voltage input terminals 101. Using the charging voltage, a charge control unit 102 starts to control charging of a battery 103. If the portable device 100 is removed from the placement portion 151 when charging is completed or underway, a switch 108 is switched from on state to off state, and supply of the commercial alternating current to the transforming portion 105 is ceased.
