To provide a charge control method which, relating to a versatile charger which charges a battery set 2, in which a plurality of batteries are connected in series, exhibits capability of the versatile charger, to a maximum, when charging the battery set 2 consisting of any number of batteries, by detecting the battery voltage of the battery set 2 and controlling to the charge current, corresponding to the battery voltage or the number of batteries discriminated based on the battery voltage.
The charger comprises a battery voltage detecting means 40 for detecting the battery voltage of the battery set 2; the detected signal of the battery voltage detecting means 40 is fetched in a microcomputer 50; the microcomputer 50 transmits a set value for setting a charge current, corresponding to the detection signal or the number of batteries of the battery set 2 that is discriminated, based on the detection signal to a charge current control means 60 for controlling a charge current via a charge current setting means 80 for controlling the charge current to a prescribed value.
