Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a discharge area while maintaining image quality in charging a photoreceptor so as to obtain high chargeability.SOLUTION: A charging device includes a charging member that receives the application of voltage to charge a photoreceptor, and a support member that supports the charging member to be in pressure contact with the photoreceptor. The charging member includes a conductive support, an elastic base layer supported by the conductive support, an elastic surface layer provided on the surface of the elastic base layer and harder than the elastic base layer, and concave-convex portions provided on the elastic surface layer. The convex parts constituting the concave-convex portions are brought into contact with the photoreceptor to be elastically deformed and form dischargeable gaps between the elastic surface layer and photoreceptor.
