In a charging device for charging a battery by rectifying the electric current from an AC output terminal by a bridge circuit consisting of an upper arm transistor and a lower arm transistor and generating rectified output voltage between a reference voltage terminal and a rectification output terminal, a comparator for comparing the rectified output voltage with a specified voltage is provided for gate control circuits of the upper arm transistor and the lower arm transistor, so as to perform control for increasing penetrating current from the upper arm transistor through the lower arm transistor if the rectified output voltage reaches at least the specified voltage.
