To provide a charging device whose parts are improved in lifetime when a frequency of power failure during external charging is high.
The charging device includes: a charger 42 which receives electric power from an external power source 8 to charge a battery MB; relays (system main relays SMRB, SMRG and relays CHRB, CHRG) which are provided on a power supply line extending from the external power source 8 to the battery MB via the charger 42, and connects and disconnects the power supply line; and a controller 30 which controls the relays and charger 42. The controller 30 measures the charging duration from the start to the end of charging, and even when a stop of supply of electric power from the external power source 8 is detected during charging, the controller opens the relays a first standby time later if the charging duration is longer than a predetermined value or opens the relays a second standby time longer than the first standby time later if the charging duration is shorter than the predetermined value.
