To suppress degradation of a battery in an idling stop vehicle.
A battery charger comprising an automatic stop control means for performing idling stop, a first battery 20 for supplying power to an electric load 18 during idling stop, and a second battery 22 for supplying power to a starter 14 is further provided with a generator 16 normally connected with the first battery 20 and capable of altering the generation voltage, a switching means 26 for bringing the generator 16 and the second battery 22 into connection state or disconnection state, and a charge control means for controlling the switching means 26 to bring about connection state and making the generator 16 charge the first and second batteries 20 and 22. The charge control means controls the switching means 26 to bring about disconnection state when the second battery 22 is fully charged earlier than the first battery 20, and lowers the generation voltage of the generator 16 by a predetermined value when the first battery 20 is fully charged earlier than the second battery 22.
