To provide a highly durable charging member capable of stably holding a gap between an image carrier and the charging member even in the beginning of its use and in its long use, and to provide a process cartridge and image forming apparatus.
The charging member 102 has a long conductive support 201, and an electric resistance adjustment layer 202 formed on the peripheral face of the conductive support 201. The charging member 102 separately has non-conductive gap holding members 203 which locate the conductive support 201 and the image carrier 101 with a fixed distance between them, at least parts of which extend on the electric resistance adjustment layer 202 near both ends of the conductive support 201, and the peripheries of which project from the charging member 202. The amount of projection of each gap holding member 203 from the electric resistance adjustment layer 202 decreases toward a charging range. The process cartridge and image forming apparatus have the charging member 102.
