The check valve 10 includes a body 12 including a fluid passage 14; a valve mechanism 28 including a valve seat 16 provided at an intermediate part of the fluid passage 14, and a valve element 26 slidably arranged in the body 12 and seated on the valve seat 16; a guide ring 40 surrounding a stem 38 of the valve element 26 and abutting on a guide member 22; and a spring 50 with both ends supported to a stepped part 36 of the valve element 26 and a flange 42 of the guide ring 40. Before the check valve 10 is assembled, the diameter of the stem 38 constituting the valve element 26 is set to a dimension not smaller than the inner diameter of the guide ring 40, and the guide ring 40 has an axially extended slit 46.
