PURPOSE: To rationalize the check, by rocognizig in pattern the shape, the size, and the quantity of subedge connector in the edge part of a printed board to be checked to discriminate the type of this printed board, and connecting an adapted cable and applying an adapted signal.

CONSTITUTION: A television camera 4 is moved in the Y direction to subject the shape, the size, and the quantity of subedge connectors in the edge part of a printed board 1 to pattern recognition, and recognition results are subjected to picture processing in a part 5, and then, a tester 7 determines the type of the printed board 1. A cable connector corresponding to the type is selected from connectors AWE and is connected, and a main edge connector 2 is inserted to the printed board 1. The tester 7 selects test pattern data corresponding to the type from floppy discs 8AW8E and stores it and drives the printed board 1 through a code drive buffer 6. The tester 7 discriminates the state signal of the printed board 1 to check the printed board 1. Thus, the check is performed efficiently, and the reliability is improved.
