To uniformly reduce the thickness of a forged face plate.
This method chemically etches a face segment (60) for a golf club (40) in order to uniformly remove 0.002 to 0.015 inch of the material therefrom. The forged face segment (60) is placed within an acidic solution in such a manner that the material is removed uniformly from all the surfaces of the face segment (60). The forging treatment to be carried out prior to etching includes plural heat treatments and a treatment all to press a metallic rod in order to obtain a final face segment structure (60). The heat treatments of the metallic rod are executed in the time shorter than 20 minutes and at a temperature lower than 1,000°C. The final face segment structure (60) preferably has an impact plate (72) provided with regions having various thicknesses. The metallic rod preferably consists of the forged titanium material.
