PURPOSE: To provide a chewing gum containing 4-O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-α-D- fructose as a non-calorific sweetener, effective in preventing constipation, prolifer ating enteric bifidus bacteria and free from the problems of obesity and dental caries.

CONSTITUTION: The objective chewing gum contains 4-O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-α- D-fructose as a non-calorific sweetener. The gum is prepared e.g. by compounding 2% of a gum base, 1% of flavor, 22 of calcium carbonate, 40% of the above sweetener, 20% of glucose and 15% of starch syrup.
