Abstract:
PURPOSE: To correct the upper and lower jaws in their appropriate frontal and rear positions by composing an orthodontic appliance to correct jaw positions of an operational part having thin grooves to receive teeth of upper and lower jaws and a non-operational part applied to the operational part with a joint. CONSTITUTION: An appliance 10 applicable to a child of approx. 12 to 20 months old is made of plastic and composed of two U-shaped thin grooves 14 and 16 separated with a sheet 18, in which the thin grooves are equipped with operational parts 12 opening adversely to receive the upper and lower baby teeth. The thin grooves extend backward to rear ends 20 and 22 placing a little backward to the infantile canine and have a lip side wall 24 and a tongue side wall 26. The appliance 10 has a non-operational part 28 to cover up front of the lip in order not to get clogged in the mouth. A guard part 30 looking like a dummy for an infant is to help a child to move on to the appliance from a dummy. A grip 34 is applied in the guard part 30 to make it easier to take and put in the mouth.
