Abstract:
Benzopyranopyridine derivs. of formula (I) are new: (R1 and R2 are each H, OH, 1-6C alkyl or alkoxy, or are together methylenedioxy; R3 and R4 are H,1-6C alkyl or opt. substd. aryl, but R3 is not H if R4 is H; X is CHR5, NR5, CH2CH2, O,S or direct bond (completing pyrrolidino); R5 = H or 1-6C alkyl). They are prepd. e.g. by reacting Hal. CH2C(R4)O with corresp. N-unsubstd. benzopyranopyridin-5-one, then reductive alkylation with the appropriate heterocycle. (I) are bronchodilators and unlike most known cpds. of this type do not induce convulsions at 200 mg/kg.
