Title:
CHILL TENDENCY EVALUATING METHOD FOR MOLTEN METAL AND MANUFACTURE OF CAST IRON USING IT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH09113505
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To accurately and quickly evaluate the chill tendency of a molten metal in the stage of the molten metal by setting the chill carbon equivalent in the constituent composition of the molten cast iron.

When the chill carbon equivalent CEc in the composition of the spherical molten graphite cast iron is properly adjusted, the chill tendency of the molten metal can be accurately and quickly evaluated in the stage of the molten metal. The chill carbon equivalent CEc in the constituent composition of the molten cast iron is set, and the chill trend during the cooling process of the molten cast iron is evaluated by the chill carbon equivalent CEc. The chill carbon equivalent CEc is calculated from the equation CEc=C%+αSi%(1<α≤2). The chill tendency can be compared and studied objectively, quantitatively, and universally. When this chill tendency evaluating method is utilized to manufacture cast iron, unchilled cast iron can be efficiently manufactured by the molten metal adjusted with the nature optimally.
