PURPOSE: To arbitrarily position a character without unevenness of line feed by editing and storing a picture-processed picture signal, the code and size of an edited character, and a position signal in a page memory.

CONSTITUTION: Original drawing 11 is photographed by TV camera 12, whose picture signal is converted by picture processor 13 into a binary digital signal, which is recorded on magnetic tape 14. On the other hand, character code 21, the size of the character and position 22 are edited by editing machine 23 and then recorded on magnetic tape 24. Data on tapes 14 and 24 and those registered in image memory 15 and font memory 25 are processed by arithmetic device 26 to generate data for one complete page, which is outputted to page memory 27. The data stored in memory 27 is supplied to laser beam printer 100 to pull galley proofs 28, when there is no error in galley 28, block copy 29 is generated and sent to the process of printing.
