PURPOSE: To enable good chip resistant painting without applying masking by preventing the slippage of a paint coating roller, by providing grooves extending along the direction of a rotary shaft to the paint coating roller.

CONSTITUTION: Grooves 3 extending along a rotary shaft 2 are provided to the entire periphery of the rotary surface of a roller main body 1 and the main body 1 is supported in a rotatable manner by a support member 4 and a grip part 5 is provided to the end part of the support member 4. When the roller main body 1 is immersed in chip resistant paint and drawn up therefrom, the paint is held in the grooves 3 of the roller main body 1 by the action of surface tension. Therefore, the roller main body 1 is lightly pressed to the desired painting surface such as the wheel arch flange of a car in this state and rotated to make it possible to perform painting in a desired film thickness without generating the slippage of the roller main body 1 by the friction force with the surface to be coated.
