PURPOSE: To obtain a chlorhexidine rosin salt by adding chlorhexidine to a xylene solution of a rosin and reacting under heating for several hours and to use the obtained salt as an antifouling component of a low-polluting aquatic antifouling composition.
CONSTITUTION: Chlorhexidine is added to a xylene solution of e.g. rosin WW (acid value: 170) and reacted for several hours under heating and xylene is distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain a chlorhexidine rosin salt. The salt exhibits excellent antifouling action on fouling marine life and is easily formable in the form of an agent. Accordingly, it can be used as an antifouling component of an aquatic antifouling composition. The amount of the salt is preferably 5-20 pts. in 100 pts. of the aquatic antifouling agent. For example, an antifouling agent for fishing net is produced by dissolving the salt and a resin (e.g. rosin and acrylic resin) in a solvent such as xylene. In the case of applying to ship's bottom, the agent is further incorporated with an insoluble pigment such as red iron oxide or talc.
