To obtain a chlorinated organic compound adsorbing agent with which a chlorinated organic compound such as PCBs (perchlorobipheryls) contained minutely in oil such as insulating oil can be adsorbed/removed efficiently and the chlorinated organic compound can be treated at a cost lower than that of a chemical extracting/decomposing method, and to provide a method for separating the chlorinated organic compound by using this adsorbing agent.
The adsorbing agent for adsorbing the chlorinated organic compound in the oil consists of modified activated carbon obtained by treating activated carbon with an amine compound such as an aromatic polyamine, an alkylamine quaternary salt, an ethylene oxide (EO) adduct to a mono- or di-alkylamine and an amine oxide. The method for separating the chlorinated organic compound comprises a step to adsorb the chlorinated organic compound in the oil by bringing the chlorinated organic compound adsorbing agent into contact with the oil containing the chlorinated organic compound.
