To obtain the subject new compound useful as an intermediate for producing a derivative used as a microbicide and a herbicide.
A chromone derivative of formula I (R1 is H or the like; R2 is H or the like; R3 is a halogen or the like; R4 is H or the like; A is nitro or the like; R5 is H or the like; X is O or the like; Z is O or the like) is provided. The compound of the formula I is obtained from a compound of raw material e.g. by a method comprising reacting a phenol with a β-ketoester in the presence of polyphosphoric acid. The compound of raw material is preferably obtained by reacting 1 mole of a chromone compound with 0.9-1.5 mole of a nitrating agent (e.g. nitric acid) in a solvent (e.g. dichloromethane) at 0-50°C for 1-10 hr. The compound of the formula I is further subjected to several reactions to obtain an aminochromone derivative of formula II, an iso(thio) cyanatochromone derivative of formula III and a (thio)semicarbazidochromone derivative of formula IV. The derivative of the formula IV is reacted with an acid anhydride or the like to obtain a chromone derivative of formula V useful as a microbicide and a herbicide.
