PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of noises in the advance and retreat of a needle member by permitting a cam probe of the needle member to bear against a disk cam rotated by a motor driven with electric signals.

CONSTITUTION: A cam shaft 5 is pivoted through a timing belt 3 and a pulley 4 by rotating a drive motor 2 according to desired selection signals. A needle member 12 is protruded to penetrate into a first material through a cam probe 14 bearing against a disk cam 6 in the first step phase of the cam shaft. Further, the disk cam 6 is pivoted to protrude further the needle member 12 in the second step phase so that said needle member penetrate also into a second material. Under such condition, after these materials are supplied to a sewing machine by a transfer supply means, the disk cam 6 is further pivoted. When the position of cam 6 relative to the cam probe 14 reaches the third step phase, the needle member 12 retreats to the initial position and the first and second conditions of clamped material are both relieved.
