To provide a chuck opening/closing mechanism provided with an excessive-closing prevention structure capable of preventing excessive closing of a chuck and excessive compression of a sleeve even during high-speed rotation, and a machine tool provided with the chuck opening/closing mechanism.
The chuck opening/closing mechanism 10 has a cover 30 for regulating an arm 18b so as to prevent the arm 18b from excessively closing the chuck by being further radially externally displaced when the chuck is closed. The cover 30 has a nearly cylindrical shape and is arranged so that its central axis is almost aligned with an axial line of a main spindle in order to surround a pair of levers 18. The cover 30 is mounted with a protruding member, for example, a screw or pin 34 that is brought into contact with or brought close to the arm 18b.
