To provide a circuit breaker which is capable of commutating an arc on the movable contact side to an arc commutation plate, even in a relatively small-current region.
The circuit breaker comprises: a first fixed contact 1; a second fixed contact 2; a movable contact 3 for bridging them; an arc extinguishing chamber 5 for extinguishing an arc generated between contact points; and an arc commutation plate 7 for commutating the arc generated between the contact points. An opening 7c for inserting the movable contact 3 therethrough is provided at the center of the arc commutation plate 7. At the time of current interruption, the movable contact 7 is made to pass through the opening 7c of the arc commutation plate 7 and is opened below the arc commutation plate 7.
