To provide a circuit breaker which increases a pressure in a breaking chamber to a high pressure during breaking due to the occurence of a large current and improves breaking performance.
A circuit breaker includes make and break contacts 21 and 22 having a movable contact 23 for each phase of a cable way, a housing which houses the make and break contacts 21 and 22 and is composed of a base 11 and a cover 12, a cross bar 32 rotating the movable contact 23, an opening/closing mechanism driving the cross bar 32 to allow the make and break contacts 21 and 22 to contact with each other or separate from each other, a movable iron core 41b rotating with electromagnetic force generated when a large current occurs and driving the opening/closing mechanism, and a barrier 13 provided between the movable iron core 41b and the cross bar 32.
