Title:
CIRCUIT FOR MONITORING AND BALANCING BATTERIES
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3893137
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circuit for monitoring and balancing batteries which is used for balancing the batteries in a single battery pack, wherein voltages can be measured with reliability, and the threshold levels of overvoltage, undervoltage, and the like can be adjusted with ease.
SOLUTION: The monitoring circuit is for accurately monitoring the voltage level of a battery pack, based on the voltage level of each battery in the battery pack. The monitor circuit includes an analog/digital converter (ADC) and a processor. The ADC is so constituted that it receives an analog voltage signal from each of a plurality of the batteries and converts each analog voltage signal into a digital signal that indicates the accurate voltage level of the corresponding battery. The processor receives these signals and provides a safety warning signal, based on at least one of the signals. The resolution of the ADC is adjustable. When at least two digital signals indicate that the voltage difference between two batteries is greater than the battery balance threshold, the balance circuit provides a balance signal. Electronic equipment, containing such a circuit for monitoring and balancing and various methods therefor, are also provided.
