Abstract:
An external gear fuel pump that draws in and boosts the pressure of a fuel having a lower viscosity than diesel oil, and discharges the fuel to an engine. This fuel pump has a pair of gears (4, 5), and a pair of side plates (11, 12) arranged on both sides of the rotational axes (RL1, RL2) of the pair of gears. The pair of gears have respective gear side surfaces (21, 22, 31, and 32) formed on both sides in the rotational axis direction. The pair of side plates have contact surfaces (51a, 51b, 52a, and 52b) with which the respective gear side surfaces make contact so as to be capable of rotating and sliding. On each gear side surface or on each contact surface, multiple oil grooves (61-66, 71-74, 81-88, and 91-94), which connect a discharge-side space (45) and an suction-side space (44) in the fuel pump and supply a portion of the low-viscosity fuel to the pair of gears and the pair of side plates, are formed. When the groove depth of each of the multiple oil grooves is h, the relationship 5 μm ≤ h ≤ 10 μm is satisfied.
