To provide a civil engineering machine with a setup auxiliary system suitable to many different sensor units based upon different principles.
A sensor unit 2 is configured to detect the position of external reference by changing the position or direction of a measurement range 8 for a civil engineering machine 1 by changing the direction to the civil engineering machine 1. The civil engineering machine 1 further includes a setup auxiliary system 10 for the sensor unit 2, and also includes a display 4 configured to show an operator which direction the sensor unit 2 should be moved to so as to position the reference in the measurement range 8 of the sensor unit 2 while the sensor unit 2 is directed to the reference, and is configured to detect the position of the reference to the sensor unit 2 in at least two dimensions, the display 4 displaying the position of the reference to the measurement range 8 of the sensor unit 2 with respect to the at least two detected dimensions.
