PURPOSE: To form a cladding metal into a flat shape and to improve the yield of a product by providing preliminarily convex-shaped projecting parts and thick-walled parts corresponding to erroding proportions to the base part and both transverse ends of the cladding metal just above a flowoff port.
CONSTITUTION: The projecting part 2 at the base of the cladding metal 1 is so formed as to have the largest projecting length (e) of the part 2 in the part just above the flowoff port where a molten steel contacts directly with the metal 1, i.e., near the center in the transverse and thickness directions of the metal 1 and to have the narrower width the nearer the top end. The thick-walled parts at both transverse ends 3, 3a are constituted of the thick-walled parts (f) expanded into a tapered shape in the thickness direction of the material 1 and the lateral projecting parts (g) projecting respectively into a convex shape to the side faces of the ends 3, 3a. The cladding metal is thus made into a flat shape and the yield of the product formed by rolling after casting is improved.
