PURPOSE: To classify powdered particles equal in diameter in a submicron range on an industrial scale by very accurately removing powdered particles comparatively large in diameter from a group of powdered particles different in diameter by the user of an electric field.
CONSTITUTION: In a vessel 1 containing at least one couple of a cathode element 2 and an anode element 3, a group of powdered particles different in diameter is supplied from a supply means 10 as it is diffused in carrying fluid (e.g. water). A DC electric field or an AC electric field is impressed between the cathode element 2 and the anode element 3 to move the desired powdered particles to the surface or its circumference of the cathode element 2 and/or the anode element 3 and separate and collect the powdered particles on said surface or its circumference, independently from groups of other powdered particles, from suction tubings 5, 5'. After the classifying operation groups of powdered particles remaining in the vessel 1 are equal in diameter and homogeneous in quality. They are moved to a collector 9. Accordingly, groups of powdered particles having diameters of submicron unit can be classified with precision.
