PURPOSE: To provide a compositions, which have chemical and physical stability and are soluble in an aqueous medium as well and useful for automatic dishwashing, containing a specified water-soluble polymer and a chlorine- containing bleach component and having specified physical properties.

CONSTITUTION: Liquid or gel-type cleaning compositions are provided by having a viscosity of from about 500 to 20000 cps under shearing of 5 sec-1 and a viscosity of from about 200 to 5000 cps under shearing of 21 sec-1 based on a Haake Rotovisco RV-100 type viscometer at 25°C while containing a water-soluble polymer A formed from monomers (i) composed of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid (salt) and cross-linking monomers (iii) of trivinyl cyclohexane or the like having plural unsaturated groups and constituting a saturated hydrocarbon or aromatic structure after cross-linking so as to be stable longer than 2 weeks to oxidation by 1% hypochlorite at 25°C, not to exhibit any phase separation from the compositions and not to exhibit greater than 50% viscosity loss and a chlorine-containing bleach component B.
