To provide a cleaning composition produced by an efficient method for producing a polymer product containing an unreacted dicarboxylic acid monomer in an amount of less than about 1.5 wt.% based on the total amount of the polymer product in a polymerization reaction time of less than about 6 hours.
This cleaning composition contains at least one water-soluble polymer product produced by a method for radically polymerizing an aqueous polymer, comprising processes for (a) preparing a reaction mixture comprising one or more monomers selected from maleic anhydride, maleic acid and their mixture, (b) adding a base in an amount of 0.9 to 2.1 equivalent moles per mole of the dicarboxylic acid monomers, (c) adding a metal-promoting agent, (d) supplying a water-soluble initiator to start a polymerization reaction, (e) supplying an arbitrary other water-soluble monoethylenic unsaturated monomer to the reaction mixture during the reaction, (f) maintaining the reaction mixture at 80 to 140°C during the reaction, (g) maintaining the reaction mixture in a reaction solid content of 40 to 65 wt.% during the polymerization, (h) polymerizing the monomers for a polymerization reaction time of <6 hours, and (i) recovering the polymer product containing the residual dicarboxylic acid monomer in an amount of <1.5 wt.% based on the total weight of the polymer product.
