To provide a cleaning device which is inexpensive for manufacture, is usable for cleaning objects having various lengths, aperture sizes and internal passages of angular direction change, easily modified to different shapes, lengths and diameters so as to be made adaptable to a wider range of the various objects to be cleaned, is inexpensively manufactured and is easily usable.

The cleaning device is constituted by fusing plural fibers to a base member composed of a thermoplastic material, projecting these fibers from the surface and forming such base material to a curved shape, such as a helical shape, or to a U shape. The method for making this device includes a step of heating the base member until the base member is softened and is bent to the U shape, then cooling the base member, a step of spirally winding the base material on a rotary arbor, a step of fastening the arbor and cutting the end of the base member and a step of cooling the base member in such a manner that the base member holds its U shape or the helical shape.
