PURPOSE: To ensure cleaning on a vertical plane by providing a clear-away element to traverse a plane to be cleaned with the vertical motion of a hoist and the horizontal motion of a forklift.

CONSTITUTION: A cleaning device is secured to a forklift by engaging a sleeve 13 with a fork. The forklift is driven to the surface to be cleaned, including the side of a track and, once a clear-away element 3 contacts the surface, the forklift is driven forward nearly to its intermediate position along its running direction so as to move a supporting frame from the farthest outward position where the supporting frame 2 is deflected thereto by a spring 19. In this case, with the operation of the moderate pressure spring 19, cleaning is applied to the side of a track by the clear-away element 3. Then, the clear-away element 3 is vertically traversed by the operation of a forklift hydraulic system and the reciprocating motion of the supporting frame 2 permits a small variation in a space between the cleaning device 1 and a plane to be cleaned.
