To provide a clear coating for automotive top coat, excellent in weathering resistance and acid resistance, exhibiting such excellent stain resisting properties as to be free from car washing, and further giving the excellent stain resisting properties to an area of which the surface is polished.
This clear coating for automotive top coat contains (I) a half- ester acid group-containing acrylic copolymer and (II) a silicate-grafted acrylic copolymer as resin components, wherein the copolymer (I) is obtained by copolymerizing (I-a) a radical-polymerizing monomer containing an acid anhydride group and (I-b) another radical-polymerizing monomer to obtain a copolymer, then subjecting the acid anhydride group contained in the obtained copolymer to half-esterification with an alcoholic compound of a low molecular weight, and the copolymer (II) is obtained by grafting (II-B) a silicate compound of the formula 1 (R1 is a 1-20C alkyl which may be substituted; and n is 1-50) onto (II-A) a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing copolymer so that the grafted silicate compound (II-B) is contained in an amount of 5-50 wt.% (converted to the solid material) based on the total amount of the resin components.
