Title:
CLEAR MAGNETIC INTAGLIO PRINTING INK
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2015120913
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new intaglio printing ink composition comprising a clear magnetic pigment, which is useful for security documents such as banknotes, passports and cards.SOLUTION: An ink or an ink composition for an intaglio steel die printing process is provided, which has a viscosity at 40°C of 3 to 15 Pa s, preferably 5 to 10 Pa s and comprises a polymeric organic binder including a carboxylic acid group and magnetic pigment particles. The magnetic pigment particle comprises a magnetic core material selected from iron, FeOand FeO, which is coated with at least one layer of another material. The coating layer, in a single state or a combination of layers, imparts specific optical properties to the pigment particle, the optical properties in a visible and/or a near IR region selected from a high specular reflectance or diffuse reflectance, spectrally selective absorption or reflection, and angle-dependent absorption or reflection; and allows formulation of an ink having a large gamut of color and other optical functionalities.
