Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a closed deck type cylinder block and a method of manufacturing the closed deck type cylinder block having excellent rigidity while being compact and lightweight, and manufacturable without using a collapsible core.
SOLUTION: A block body 16 is formed by high pressure die casing (HPDC). In this case, a step part 26 is provided at the end part on the gasket face 12 side of a water jacket part 20. The outer peripheral wall parts of cylinder sleeves 18a-18c inserted in cylinder bores 14a-14c are respectively joined to the inner peripheral wall parts of the cylinder bores 14a-14c by friction agitation joining. A blocking member 22 placed at the step part 26 is joined to the block body 16 by friction agitation joining to integrally joint both members 16, 22 without a seam.
